When is the right time to upgrade to TH14?

As a Town Hall 13 player, you might be wondering when to upgrade your base to Town Hall 14. There are a few things to consider before making the leap. In this article, we will discuss the checklist of upgrades to complete before upgrading to TH14.

The rushing approach

The approach we’ve advocated for years is strategic rushing, as it’s consistently the fastest method for maxing out a base in Clash of Clans. However, there are several key considerations to address before rushing your TH13 to TH14:

  1. Ensure the Royal Champion is at least level 20.
  2. Barbarian King and Archer Queen should reach at least level 70, with the Grand Warden at a minimum of level 45.
  3. Both Scattershots need to be upgraded to level 2.
  4. Max out key troops like the Electro Dragon, Balloon, and Lava Hound.
  5. Make sure essential spells like Invisibility and Clone are maxed out to their TH13 levels.
  6. Complete essential offense upgrades, including the Clan Castle, Barracks, Dark Barracks, Spell Factory, Army Camp, Laboratory, and Blacksmith.
  7. Max out all storages.

When following this approach, you can overlook defense buildings. The Scattershots, which provide the most Damage Per Second value to your base, are prioritized for maxing out to provide some deterrence to attackers.

If you’re following this approach, it’s recommended to have a second army composition fully upgraded alongside Electro Dragons. This secondary army composition should be one that you are good at, as at Town Hall 14, Electro Dragons may be less useful against certain anti-Edrag bases. Therefore, make sure you have an alternative strategy prepared.

The “max-out everything” approach

The “max-out everything” method is another popular approach used by a significant portion of the Clash community. Players who prefer this method aim to fully upgrade every aspect of their base before advancing to the next Town Hall level.

Here are some advantages to this approach:

  1. Spending less time at the next Town Hall level.
  2. A fully upgraded base is more useful to your clan in Clan Wars.

However, there are several significant disadvantages to consider with this approach. The primary drawback is the potential for wasting millions of gold, elixir, or dark elixir once certain aspects of your base are maxed out.

For example, if your heroes are fully upgraded, you may find yourself accumulating excess dark elixir, resulting in your dark elixir storage consistently being full.

In contrast, with the rushing approach, you would continuously use excess dark elixir for next hero upgrades. Since hero upgrades are among the most challenging in the game, wasting millions of dark elixir could ultimately hinder the overall progress of your village compared to players actively using a strategic rushing approach.

The same issue applies to Laboratory upgrades; if you max out your lab upgrades before defenses and walls, you risk wasting millions of elixir obtained from attacks, wars, or other sources.
